SENEGAL
– Delegate: Mr. Abdulaye Faye

Within the framework of UNIDO’s Delegates programme,
ITPO Italy hosted Mr Abdoulaye Faye, in charge of SME
Financial Programming at ADEPME (Senegalese Agency for
the Development of SMEs) in 2008 and supported him in
pursuing his objectives. The main objectives of his stay
in Italy were to promote three Senegalese export
consortia (in the agro-food sector), to identify
channels of distribution, and to find potential partners
and appropriate technology for the 16 companies grouped
in those consortia.
During his mission, the Delegate visited one of the
biggest international trade fairs of food products,
namely, Salone del Gusto in Turin. He was also exposed
to UNIDO’s methodology for promotion and project
evaluation and participated in a training course on
export consortia management, as well as in the study
tour that took the three Consortia presidents to
Ravenna, Ferrara, Parma, and Turin.
ETHIOPIA

Delegate: Ms. Birkinesh
Gonfa Yado

Ms.
Birkinesh Gonfa Yado,
marketing research and promotion team leader at the
Textile and Leather Industry Development Center of the
Ethiopian Ministry of Trade and Industry, joined ITPO
Italy from October to December 2008 within the context
of the UNIDO Delegates Program. The main objectives of
her stay in Italy were to promote Ethiopian investment
opportunities - mainly in leather, textiles, and
agribusiness - and to acquire a good insight in the
Italian productive and industrial reality. In more
detail, during her stay in Italy she concentrated on
leather and shoe manufacturing, clothing, and coffee
processing since these are key industries in both Italy
and Ethiopia.
TANZANIA
– Delegate: Mr. Daudi Stephano Riganda (Oct 08 –
Dec 08)

Centre
ITPO Italy hosted Mr. Daudi Stephano Riganda from
October to December. He is Senior Facilitation and Investment
Officer at Tanzanian Investment Center. In accordance
with the guidelines of the Program and UNIDO’s
methodology, the delegate selected a project’s portfolio
of about 20 small and medium enterprises mainly
operating in agribusiness, leather, and handicraft. The
projects were promoted to Italian companies and
institutions with the aim to identify potential
industrial/commercial partners for the Tanzanian
counterparts.
INDIA-
Delegate: Mr. James Paul Daniel

Sponsoring Institution: CII - Confederation of Indian
Industry
Mr. James Daniel was hosted as Indian Delegate under the
Consolidated Project for SME Development in India, in
order to promote the possibilities of investment and
technology transfer mainly in the auto component sector.
During his visit, he was able to present a portfolio of
investment opportunities, as well as the SPX Platform in
the auto component industry in India. The delegate was
able to make contacts with the main Italian institutions
and associations of the automobile and auto component
industry.
His presence also gave good support to prepare the
workshop on Business opportunities in India for Private
Equity and Venture Capital Funds
and also it was an important occasion to create
possibilities of collaboration between the small and
medium enterprises that are interested in joint ventures
between India and Italy.
In challenging times for this specific industry, it is
important to increase the capabilities of developing
countries, especially India, and support the strategies
that can help to link supply chains.
INDIA-
Delegate: Mr. Munusamy Viswanathan

IFLMEA (Indian Finished Leather Manufacturers’ &
Exporters’ Association)
In the framework of the UNIDO Delegates Programme, ITPO
Italy hosted Mr. Munusamy Viswanathan under the
Consolidated Project for SME Development in India. The
Delegate was able to meet private companies operating in
the leather industry familiarizing himself with the
most innovative and sustainable technologies currently
in use. The trip to Tuscany Region reflects the
increasing importance of protecting communities and the
environment, e.g. the visit to the Aquarno water
purification plant, the most eco-advanced, with 400
leather tanning companies associated to it. Finally the
technology and capabilities available in India were
presented to Italian associations such as ASSOMAC and
ACRIB. But, since innovation is only possible with
strong support from training and research, the tour
included a call on the Politecnico Calzaturiero, the
leather and footwear ‘university’ of Italy. |
