The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) supports developing countries and countries with transition economies in order to reach a sustainable industrial development and encourage international cooperation between companies and entrepreneurs. By means of its 42 offices in developing countries and in collaboration with its 173 member countries, UNIDO pursues its aim through the mobilization of human, intellectual, and technological resources through which it fosters productive employment and economic development sensitive to ecological and environmental problems.
The Italian Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO Italy), based in Rome, was created in 1987 on the basis of an agreement between the Italian Government and UNIDO. ITPO Italy has the mission of supporting industrial cooperation with companies in developing countries, supplying an array of services along the path of investment projects, from scouting of industrial partners, to the supply of technical assistance to promising industrial projects.
UNIDO ITPO Italy is globally involved in several industrial cooperation projects, particularly in Argentina, China, Ecuador, India, Mongolia, Mexico, Serbia and Uruguay.
Besides technical and financial assistance provided to entrepreneurs, ITPO Italy has initiated specific industrial development programs both at national and regional levels regarding those productive sectors in which Italy excels, such as food processing, textiles and packaging, leather tanning and footwear production, environment and renewable energy. ITPO Italy’s support is based on the promotion of industrial partnerships, the improvement of technological and quality standards, capacity-building to institutions and entrepreneurs recognizing the importance of promoting environmentally friendly technologies and techniques.
