Yekaterinburg, 11 July 2019 - The second Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit (GMIS) – a joint initiative of the United Arab Emirates and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) – concluded its deliberations today with a call for more partnerships and inclusive and sustainable industrial strategies.

“It is only through dialogue that we can build dynamic partnerships, show thought leadership and deliver on the promises of the Fourth Industrial Revolution”, said UNIDO Deputy to the Director General, Hiroshi Kuniyoshi. “Everyone’s knowledge, experiences and know-how are vital. The partnerships that begin this week can provide the right dynamism, cooperation and resources to work towards ‘the world we want’”. 

GMIS is the world’s first cross-industry and cross-functional platform that unites manufacturers, governments and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), technologists, and investors to build a roadmap towards investing in the capabilities, innovation and the skills needed to position the manufacturing sector at the forefront of global economic growth and as a key driver to advance the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“This Summit is about achieving tangible outcomes”, said Head of the GMIS Organizing Committee Badr Al-Olama. “One of the outcomes and lasting legacy of GMIS 2019 is a new global initiative, which will help start-ups integrate resource efficient, nature-based technologies into industries”.

Building on this momentum, Consul General of Germany in Yekaterinburg Stefan Keil confirmed that the third edition of GMIS will take place during Hannover Messe 2020, one of the world’s largest industrial technology trade fairs. GMIS 2019 was co-hosted by the Roscongress Foundation and the region of Sverdlovsk under the broad theme of “nature-inspired technologies”; it attracted high-level international delegations and benefitted from opening remarks of President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.
