The COVID-19 outbreak presents unprecedented challenges to governments, industries and societies around the world. We are facing a global health crisis that has disrupted our normal ways of working as well as the business sector.
As response to these challenges many Italian companies and startups are providing innovative products, repurposing their business, production and Research and Development capabilities to support the fight against coronavirus.
In particular, many fashion and luxury companies have started to produce millions of pieces of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including masks, gowns, gloves, and stockings for sanitary use. Mechanical industry has strengthened the production capacity of medical and respiratory equipment while cosmetic and other consumer goods companies have started to manufacture and bottle gels and disinfectants.
Also, academics, startups and makers are using 3D printer, artificial intelligence and their comprehensive knowledge to create necessary products for this emergency, in line with an open innovation approach.
UNIDO ITPO Italy has selected some of these innovations and efforts of repurposing business to promote the Italian companies’support in containing the emergency. Moreover, the platform aims at facilitating industrial and business cooperation opportunities with potential international partners, especially with Developing Countries interested in acquiring and replicating best practices from the Italian manufacturing sector.
