Country profile

From March 25th to April 18th 2014, within the framework of the Delegate Programme, UNIDO ITPO Italy hosted in its office in Rome Miss Nathalie Laure Beyala Ekoumou, officer from the Cameroonian Investment Promotion Agency (IPA).

The IPA, based in Yaoundé, is the Government body in charge of promoting Cameroon as a destination for foreign direct investments, providing assistance for foreign companies in their entrance to the local market and guidance regarding bureaucratic issues and incentives provided by the investments code. Moreover, IPA also identifies investment opportunities coming from both public and private sectors and plays an advisory role to the Government regarding measures of attraction of foreign investments.

Within the framework of UNIDO ITPO Italy’s Environment and Energy Programme, the delegate from Cameroon had the chance to present a portfolio of 17 projects concerning several investment opportunities in the renewable energy (mostly hydroelectric and biogas) and environment (waste management and recycling technologies). In this context, during the delegate period of stay, UNIDO ITPO Italy organized more than 60 bilateral meetings between Miss Ekoumou and several Italian companies active in the renewable energy and environment sectors, as well as various study tours and company visits that involved the most part of the national territory.

In occasion of the above mentioned study tours, the delegate visited two biogas plants, one landfill equipped with a system of biogas capture for the exploitation of solid urban waste fermentation and another one with an equipment powered by waste of cattle farming. A particular focus has been dedicated to hydroelectric energy, with the visit of four plants between Val Pellice and Val di Susa and one visit to an important Italian turbine manufacturing company in Vicenza. More specifically, were presented to Miss Ekoumou plants of 1500 Kw and 2000 Kw which can cover the demand of energy of approximately 3000 families, and others 2 mini hydroelectric plants of 60 kw and 170 Kw. These meetings and visits represented an important chance of dialogue and exchange with the Italian entrepreneurial community, in order to stimulate a process of promotion to pave the way for future collaborations and concrete economic relations between Italy and Cameroon.

Moreover, UNIDO ITPO Italy organized for the delegate 4 Round Tables that were held respectively at the headquarters of Promos in Milan, in Sondrio with the collaboration of BPS, in Reggio Emilia with CAN Servizio Estero and in ITPO’s premises, with the participation of more than 20 companies and associations of the sector.

UNIDO ITPO Italy supports the exchanges of technical and commercial proposals between Italian companies and Cameroonian stakeholders with the goal to develop in a virtuous way the economic partnership between the two countries in a win-win cooperation perspective.
