Thanks to the support provided by UNIDO, more than 20 Somali companies had the opportunity to take part in Macfrut, the leading Italian exhibition in the fruit&veg sector, this year in digital version.

The Somali delegation, assisted by the Entrepreneurship Development Units (EDUs) established by UNIDO in Mogadishu, Kismayo and Baidoa and by ITPO Italy, received more than 50 requests of partnerships from several Countries all around the world, namely buyers interested in tropical fruits and citrus, as well as technology providers in the horticulture sector.

The Somali virtual booth was enriched by the participation of the FGS Minister of Commerce and Industry, who addressed a video message to the visitors and fair organizers, favouring the establishment of fruitful cooperation between Somali companies and international investors.

Macfrut 2020 has been a valuable opportunity to open up the international market for traders and buyers in this difficult time of uncertainty, UNIDO will follow-up the negotiations arose after the exhibition, with the aim of supporting inclusive and sustainable industrial development in Somalia.
