Regeneration 20|30

On 15 and 16 October UNIDO ITPO Italy Head Ms. Diana Battaggia participated in Regeneration 20|30, the global summit addressing and taking concrete actions in three deeply interconnected areas of sustainable development: regenerative economy, climate action and world happiness.

Climate change is the main threat to our shared future: in order to address and tackle its impact on our environment, societies and economies, a strong collective effort is needed today, shifting unsustainable traditional business models towards a greener, more sustainable and inclusive economy for the next generations.

Held both virtually and in Parma, named Italian Capital of Culture for 2020-2021 , the first meeting of the Regeneration 20|30 coalition brought together global leaders, policy makers, entrepreneurs, spiritual leaders, academics, members of NGOs and the civil society in order to share ideas and best practices and start a dialogue among institutions, businesses and individuals who are committed to be a part of this change.

In this framework, UNIDO Director External Relations, Mr. Kai Bethke, highlighted how "Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development drives sustained economic growth and the well-being of people in developing countries". During her intervention, UNIDO Goodwill Ambassador Ms. Elisabetta Lattanzio Illy also commented: “Regeneration means bringing out the full potential of all resources. UNIDO brings industrial development in marginalized areas to create self-sustained communities”.

All participants were invited to sign the Regenerative Economy, Climate Action and World Happiness Pledge, a guide shaping a joint way forward along the path within the 2020-2030 time span, in line with the 2030 Agenda promoted by the United Nations and its Sustainable Development Goals.
