On 2 July 2021 UNIDO ITPO Italy took part in “DAWN of Women in Agriculture: Technology as an enabler”, a Dialogue event coordinated by Future Food Institute and organized in the framework of the United Nations 2021 Food Systems Summit with the goal of discussing how to empower women small-scale entrepreneurship in the agriculture and livestock sectors through knowledge-exchange, information services and training.
Diana Battaggia, Head of UNIDO ITPO Italy, joined as speaker the first session of the event stressing how "women play a central role as the most active stakeholder group in the agricultural sector in emerging countries" and how "digitalization and innovative technologies are revolutionizing agricultural value chains by providing better access to financial markets".
The panel was joined by further relevant experts in the field of international cooperation and sustainable development: Sara Roversi, President of Future Food Institute; Gerda Verburg, UN Assistant Secretary-General and Coordinator of the UN Scaling-Up Nutrition Movement; Sunil Dutt, President Devices of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd.; Shri Anoop Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairy & Fisheries and Agricultural Marketing, Government of Maharashtra; and Danielle Nierenberg, President of Food Tank.
UNIDO ITPO Italy took part in the event also by facilitating the participation of 4 women entrepreneurs and startuppers from its own network: Finana – Mozambique project 2016/2018; Yarok – winner of UNIDO ITPO Italy 2017 International Award in Agribusiness; Ozolea – 2017 shortlisted participant and later involved in many initiatives with Pakistan; and Atmonia – winner of the Women category of the 2019 International Award in Agribusiness. In the second session of the dialogue, participants were divided into groups aimed at discussing specific topics of interest – equality, productivity, digital literacy, market barriers, impact e sustainability – in order to highlight areas for improvement and tangible solutions to be implemented.
