IPI: 10-week training on Iraqi Industrial Zones officially started

In the framework of the IPI project "Investment Promotion for Iraq – Phase II", a 10-week training programme organized by UNIDO ITPO Italy for a group of officials from the governative Commission for Industrial Zones (IZs) and further stakeholders from both Iraqi institutions and private sector was officially launched on 27 August 2021.

The first day was dedicated to the first 2 moduls of the programme – out of 20 moduls, which will be covered throughout the next weeks – about the different typologies of IZs and their potential enhancement in high-level, low-level and post-conflict areas.

The training is held by Mr. Jean-Paul Gauthier, one of the world's leading legal experts on Special Economic Zones and currently Secretary General at the World Economic and Export Processing Zones Association (WEPZA) and Managing Director of consulting firm Locus Economica Ltd. Moderated by Mr. Abdulhadi Al-Hatem, National Technical Coordinator in Iraq, the session also featured the intervention of UNIDO ITPO Italy Investment Promotion Expert Mr. Andrea Carapellese, who presented to the participants the framework of the project and the goals related to the support of Iraqi IZs.

Around 20 participants actively interacted during this dynamic and useful training session, which succeeded in its goal to support the development of local capacity and assist Iraqi stakeholders in how to use IZs as a tool to attract inverstors in the country and improve its industrial competitiveness.
