UNIDO ITPO Italy took part in the 2022 edition of Ipack-Ima — the fair specialized in food and non-food processing and packaging, held from 3rd to 6th May in Milan, Italy — by supporting 3 business and institutional delegations from Cuba, Iraq and Somalia.

These initiatives were respectively organized in the framework of three different projects: “Capacity Building on Investment for Cuban Government”, “Investment Promotion for Iraq - Phase II” and “Agro-technology development for economic growth in South and Central Somalia”, all funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation and implemented by UNIDO.

Cuba

UNIDO ITPO Italy Chief Technical Advisor Mr. Dino Fortunato arranged the participation of a ministerial delegation from the Cuban Ministry of Industries (MINDUS) represented by MINDUS Deputy Prime Minister Ms. Yamilín González Milián and Deputy Director of Industrial Management Ms. Ana Iris Cabrera Salomón. This activity was scheduled within the framework of the study tour in Italy from 2nd to 6th May 2022 organized for the MINDUS delegation by UNIDO ITPO Italy.

Notably, within the framework of the fair, Cuba was also officially admitted as a new member state of the World Packaging Organisation (WPO).

Iraq

UNIDO ITPO Italy Investment Promotion Expert Mr. Andrea Carapellese facilitated the participation of a delegation from Iraqi operators — mostly from the Kurdistan Region (KRG) — among which Mr. Lawand Ibrahim Ali, HR Director at the KRG Ministry of Trade and Industry and Expert at the Enterprise Development Center of Erbil supported by UNIDO.

The participating companies are operating mainly in the field of secondary packaging for pasta, salt, spices, nuts and olive oil for the local growing market, and visited all pavilions at the fair, taking part in more than 35 B2B meetings and starting to discuss potential technical trade collaborations mainly with producers of machineries for pasta, automatic fillers, transport cartoon packaging and labeling and marking systems.

Somalia

UNIDO ITPO Italy Investment Promotion Expert Mr. Francesco Pallocca supported a delegation composed of representatives from 5 Somali SMEs — namely Gaaloge, Al Ashraf, Moumin Group, Hiigsi Agro-company, and Ramaas. The companies — all operating in the field of fruit and agriculture production — participated in the fair with the goal to discover technologies for packaging and processing, and took part in around 100 B2B meetings thanks to the support provided by UNIDO ITPO Italy.
