From 2nd to 6th May 2022 UNIDO ITPO Italy organized a study tour in Italy for a delegation from the Ministry of Industries of Cuba (MINDUS) – represented by Deputy Minister Ms. Yamilín González Milián and Deputy Director of Industrial Management Ms. Ana Iris Cabrera Salomón – aimed at promoting the Italian experience in the industry of packaging and containers in the agrifood sector and beyond, so as to boost the use of innovative technologies and products in Cuba according to international standards.

UNIDO ITPO Italy assisted the Cuban delegation to visit the Interdepartmental Center for Packaging (CIPACK) in Parma, and the Department of Food Science and Technology for a Sustainable Agrifood Supply Chain (DiSTAS) of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Cremona, as well as to take part in the international fair Ipack-Ima 2022 held in Milan between 3rd and 6th May.

Notably, within the context of the fair, Cuba was also officially accepted as a new member of the World Packaging Organization.

MINDUS Deputy Minister Ms. Yamilín González Milián and UNIDO ITPO Italy’s Chief Technical Advisor Mr. Dino Fortunato also took part as panelists in the international forum “Packaging Speaks Green”, with a presentation illustrating the project implemented together with the Cuban National Center for Packaging and Containers (CNEE) and “How UNIDO promotes environmentally friendly packaging methods and technologies in developing countries”. 

This initiative was organized within the framework of the project “Capacity Building on Investment for Cuban Government”, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation and implemented by UNIDO ITPO Italy.
