"Women Business Forum: Gender-Smart Financing to Unlock Women’s Entrepreneurial Potential in the MENA region" by UNIDO and Union for the Mediterranean

UNIDO ITPO Italy took part in the “Women Business Forum: Gender-Smart Financing to Unlock Women’s Entrepreneurial Potential in the MENA region”, co-organized by the Union for the Mediterranean and UNIDO with the support of the Government of Sweden, UNIDO PWE in MENA and the Italian Development Cooperation, which took place between 20th and 21st July 2022 in a hybrid format both in Barcelona and online.

The event provided the opportunity to address persisting gender-based financial inequalities, and discuss to identify gender-smart financing solutions to empower women as entrepreneurs, traders, workers and professionals. 

“We need to fully tap into all human potential to successfully counter the climate crisis, including that of women entrepreneurs. Women-owned businesses have also shown higher levels of environmental orientation than their male counterparts” commented Ms. Cecilia Ugaz Estrada, Director Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women Office at UNIDO, during her speech at the Women Business Forum.

Ms. Ugaz Estrada, together with UNIDO ITPO Italy Chief Technical Advisor Mr. Dino Fortunato and other UNIDO representatives, also took part in a bilateral meeting with Dr. Abdelkader El Khissassi, Deputy Secretary General, Economic Development and Employment Division and other representatives of the Union for the Mediterranean to explore avenues to further strengthen UfM-UNIDO collaboration.
