UNIDO ITPO Italy organized and coordinated a study tour in Italy, held from 3rd to 5th April 2023 between Rome, Arezzo and Bologna, for a Moroccan business and institutional delegation in the field of waste management, in the framework of the project "Fostering international partnerships between companies and/or institutions operating in the energy and environment sectors" (FIPEE), funded by the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security (MASE) and implemented by UNIDO ITPO Italy.

The study tour kicked off on 3rd April at UNIDO ITPO Italy, with the organization of a dedicated roundtable titled "Management and recycling of building materials: towards the creation of a new production chain that respects the environment". Notably, the roundtable featured the participation and opened with the welcome remarks of UNIDO ITPO Italy's Head Ms. Diana Battaggia, the Plenipotentiary Minister of the Kingdom of Morocco to Italy His Excellency Khalid Atlassi, MASE Technical Officer Ms. Laura Fanciulli, and Mr. Salah Eddine Ait Bella, Chief State Engineer of International Cooperation Division at the local project counterpart, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development of Morocco.

During the main session of the roundtable, technical experts and representatives from ANPAR - namely Mr. Giorgio Bressi and Mr. Luca Grillini - illustrated the operative and legal framework in Italy for a sustainable management and recycle of construction and demolition waste, sharing innovative best practices with the Moroccan delegates - who also had the opportunity to introduce themselves, pose questions and interact in the Q&A session concluding the event.

In the afternoon, the first step of the study tour was the visit to the Eco Logica 2000 waste management plant in Rome. On Tuesday 4th, the delegation traveled to Tuscany and visited Innocentini & Figli, where oils for machineries are 100% biodegradable and water recycled, and Figlinese Inerti, with 250,000 tons of materials treated per year. Finally, on Wednesday 5th the delegates visited the plants in Bologna of CAMS and Ecofelsinea, Italian leaders in the design and manufacturing of fixed and mobile environment-friendly machineries for sustainable waste management and recycling.
