"Gabon Vert" and "Gabon Bleu": UNIDO supports country’s development plans

Rome, December, 5th 2012. The Head of UNIDO ITPO Italy, Ms. Diana Battaggia, met the Minister of Agriculture of the Gabonese Republic, Ms. Célestine Oguewa Ba, in the presence of H.E. the Ambassador Charles Essonghe.

During the meeting, particular attention was drawn to Gabon potentialities, highlighting the implementation of two governmental projects: "Gabon Vert" and "Gabon Bleu".

Minister Ba requested UNIDO’s support especially for the fishery sector, acknowledging the work done so far by the ITPO, in collaboration with the district of Mazara del Vallo and with the Marche Region; even though the “top priority” is still agro-industry. Gabon, in fact, suffers from high post-harvest losses, as it needs adequate technologies and expertise for the processing and packaging of food products. Among the objectives of “Gabon Vert” programme, furthermore, there is the involvement of youth and women, in order to enhance the development of family-based agriculture.

In this framework, a key role is played by formative activities: within the next months UNIDO will organize study tours and capacity-building sessions to support the development of productive chains along with training courses held on the field by companies representing Italian excellence in the above mentioned sectors.
