Rome, 21^st January 2014. Within the framework of activities carried out by UNIDO ITPO Italy in support of Developing Countries’ fishery sector, the President of Lega Pesca, Mr. Ettore Ianì, and the Vice President of Legacoop, Mr. Giorgio Bertinelli, met with the Pakistan Ambassador, Mrs. Tehmina Janjua, in order to discuss new synergies in several agro-industry sectors: in particular, given the long-standing cooperation between ITPO and Lega Pesca, in the fishery sector. In the end, the participants planned an expert group meeting, in order to support the fishery value chain in Pakistan toward the harmonization of the local sector to the EU standards and norms on food safety.

The meeting, organized by UNIDO Italy, is expression of the ITPO effort to start commercial and industrial cooperations between Pakistan and Italy: in Pakistan, in fact, the fishery sector plays a significant role in the country’s economy and food security, especially with regard to aquaculture.
