UNIDO ITPO Italy’s mission to Ghana

From June 2 to 5, a UNIDO ITPO delegation, hedead by Director Diana Battaggia and Mr Andrea Carapellese,  carried out a mission to Ghana in order to meet some high-level institutional representatives of the country, in view of the Ghana – Italy Investment Forum to be held on the next October 31 in Rome.

On June 3, UNIDO representatives met the Ghananian Minister of Foreign Affairs, HE Hanna Tettah and the Minister of Trade and Industry, HE Haruna Iddrisu, as well as the Deputy Ministers of Finance, Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, and Trade and Industry, the latter also in his position as Commissioner of Ghana for EXPO 2015. Special relevance was given to the round table organized by the World Trade Center in Accra in occasion of the presence of Mrs Battaggia. The event involved over 15 local stakeholders, including the Chairman of the WTC, H.E. Togbe Afede XIV, and other representatives of Ghanaian institutions engaged in the field of attraction of foreign investments, such as the Ghana Investment Promotion Center and the Ghana Free Trade Zones Board, as well as other authorities and local businesses.

On the last day, UNIDO participated as speaker to the Ghana Entrepreneurship Forum giving a presentation speech on the activities carried out in benefit of Ghana, especially in the field of renewable energy and the environment. On this occasion, UNIDO met the President of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce, Mr Baah, the top management of the Royal Bank of Ghana and dozens of local entrepreneurs operating in various industrial sectors.

The Italian delegation registered several expressions of interest regarding the participation in the Ghana - Italian Investment Forum by all the local stakeholders met. In the framework of the mission, finally, Mrs. Battaggia also had the opportunity to meet the Italian Ambassador in Ghana, HE Laura Carpini, to  establish synergies in view of the upcoming activities related to the strengthening of economic relations between Italy and Ghana.
