Nairobi, Kenya - September 9th-12th, 2014
From September 9th to 12th, the first international East African packaging exhibition will take place in Nairobi, Kenya. This event represents a great opportunity for all those East-African enterprises (meaning those ones situated in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi) which are willing to improve their packaging technologies.
The exhibition, which will host more than 130 enterprises, half of them coming from Italy, has been organized by the Italian leading company in packaging industry Ipack-Ima Spa, in cooperation with UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization), the East African Community and Kenya’s Ministry for Enterprises Industrialization and Development.
East Afripack 2014 is the result of an agreement which has been signed on 4th July 2012 by the aforementioned subjects in UNIDO’s head-quarter in Vienna. This partnership has been possible thanks to UNIDO ITPO ITALY’s brokering role. Moreover, UNIDO ITPO ITALY is going to contribute to the event supporting a delegation of Tanzanian enterprises focused on areas such as food processing or beverage.
Due to the signed agreement, the first step taken towards the accomplishment of the exhibition has been the market study committed by Ipack-Ima Spa and carried out by UNIDO. The study took place in December 2012 and its purpose was to identify the EAC market area which might need an intervention focused on agro-producing, packaging and converting technologies. Following to the survey, which has been made on a sample of 990 enterprises, it has emerged that: 78% of the respondents plan to invest in packaging technologies over the next three years, while 92% of them affirmed their willingness to upgrade their systems. Finally, 76% of the sample declared that, over the near future, they would be inclined to delegate the packaging phase to external specialized enterprises.
