Meeting with Financial Sector for Botswana

Rome, 17 January 2018 - In the framework of the project entitled «Technical Assistance in supporting Botswana Private Sector and relevant institutions in renewable energy (RE) through investment promotion and technology transfer», funded by the Italian Ministry of Environment  Land and Sea (IMELS), UNIDO ITPO ITALY organized a meeting in its premises with CDP, SIMEST, SACE Italian financial groups and the Italian companies interested to invest in Botswana in Solar, Biogas and Environmental Technologies sectors. The aim of the meeting was to provide a platform of interaction and dialogue with the Italian industrial sector, the Ministry of Environment and the Financial Institutions in order to define financial schemes to implement industrial projects in Botswana.

The event was enriched by the presence of Mr. Francesco La Camera, General Director of the Ministry of Environment whom during his intervention highlighted the efforts IMELS has developed in order to provide sustainable solutions in developing countries in line with the Paris Agreement. In particular, he indicated the active collaboration with UNIDO ITPO Italy for Botswana, stressing the importance of improving the dialogue among private sector of both countries in order to preserve local ownership of the projects developed in Botswana.

The participation of Mr. La Camera was an occasion for the entrepreneurs to illustrate plans and challenges for the country. They also confirmed the willingness to transfer their know how at technical level in Botswana. In addition CDP, SIMEST and SACE  took with interest the projects presented and  offered their support to develop case by case financial schemes.

UNIDO ITPO Italy will continue to support the dialogue between the parts.
