Iraqi delegation visit in Rome

17 April 2009 – Within the framework of the initiatives promoted in Iraq by the DGCS (Directorate General for Development Cooperation") of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in support  to UNIDO Project "Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion for the SME Sector in Iraq", UNIDO ITPO Italy organized a full agenda of meetings between an Iraqi Delegation and a selection of Italian enterprises, mainly agro-industrial machinery manufacturers and their related trade groupings,  to promote industrial partnerships between Italy and Iraq.

The Delegation, comprising  high officials of the Iraqi Ministry of Industry and Minerals, members of Kurdish Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and representatives of the Kurdistan Investment Promotion Agency, actively participated in the meetings and made it clear that the agro-industrial sector is a priority for Iraq and that it intends to attract as much investment as possible to it.

For this purpose, the visitors took this opportunity to interact with important representatives of the Italian private sector who presented their products, and engaged in substantive discussions in preparation to evaluating the potential for industrial collaboration between the two countries.

The  day started with a meeting between UNACOMA, the National Association of Farm Machinery and Equipment manufacturers, and the Iraqi Delegation, and continued throughout the day with meetings with Italian agro-industrial companies. Dr. Guglielmo Giordano representing the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated the meetings, all the of which took place on the premises of UNIDO ITPO Italy.

Further, several meetings led to interesting exchanges as the Iraqi officials learned about machinery and technologies, while Italian enterprises evaluated marketing and distribution possibilities in Iraq.

UNIDO ITPO Italy made itself available to collaborate with Iraqi authorities and institutions, which confirmed their interest in strengthening the links already established, and in creating new ones, taking advantage of UNIDO ITPO Italy´s support.

Finally, all participants expressed their appreciation to ITPO Italy for having so effectively organised the visit, and on for the cordiality of its staff.
