The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) operates in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and countries with transition economies, in order to promote sustainable industrial development and international business cooperation. Through its 52 offices in developing countries and in collaboration with 171 member countries, UNIDO pursues this goal mobilizing human, cognitive and technological resources, important to promote productive employment and sustainable industrial development.

Dr. Li Yong was elected as General Director of UNIDO, in June 28, 2013.

UNIDO ITPO (Investment and Technology Promotion Office) Italy, based in Rome, works since 1987 under an agreement signed between UNIDO and the Italian Government. The office has a mandate to contribute to the industrial development and economic growth in developing countries by identifying and mobilizing technical, financial, and managerial resources in order to achieve employment, economic competitiveness and environmental protection.

ITPO Italy has launched specific industrial development programs to involve various sectors in which Italy developed best practices, such as agro-food, textiles, tanning, footwear, environment and renewable energy. This commitment founds, primarily, on the promotion of industrial partnerships, on the improvement of technology and quality standards, and on the capacity-building targeting cooperating institutions.

The Ministry of the Environment and Protection of Land and Sea of Italy (Italian: Ministero dell'Ambiente e della Tutela del Territorio e del Mare, also known as MATTM) is an Italian ministry established in 1981. It is responsible for environmental issues in Italy.

Since 2006, ITPO Italy has established a strong working relationship with the MITTIM, becoming one of its main partners. ITPO Italy and IMELS are developing joint programmes to promote investments and the transfer of green technologies and best practices to Developing Countries. ITPO Italy’s commitment is to encourage an environmentally friendly industrial development model in the African Continent, according to SDGs. In particular, during 2015, ITPO Italy implemented the “Energy & Environment Programme” for sub-Saharan Africa. The main sectors involved are environment, with a special reference to waste and water treatment, and renewable energy. As a result of their longstanding collaboration, ITPO Italy and MATTIM decided to strengthen their joint efforts, promoting efficiency and qualitative improvements in terms of natural resources use, pollutant emissions and waste management, so to delink the concept of economic growth to that of environmental degradation.

On 25 November 2014, MATTIM and DoE signed a Memorandum of Understanding to ease the realization of projects for environmental protection and sustainable development, focusing on the energy Sector and climate change

 

 

The Department of Environment (DoE) is a state organization which is managed by the Vice-President.

With the mandate to ensure protection of environment on the national territory, it is responsible for the implementation of the National Action Plan for Environmental Protection, that provides guidelines for environment safeguard in the country.

At the international level, it collaborates with international organizations and other entities in the implementation of agreements, regulations and partnerships
