In the framework of the UNIDO Delegate Programme, from 30 November to 14 December 2020 UNIDO ITPO Italy virtually hosted Ms. Haregewoin Mirotaw Shumiye, Director of the Investment Information and Technology Directorate of the Ethiopian Investment Commission, with the goal of promoting investment opportunities in the renewable energy and environmental technology sectors of Ethiopia to the Italian entrepreneurial community operative in the field.

UNIDO ITPO Italy arranged 30 B2B meetings with 60 representatives from 47 Italian companies, small and medium enterprises, banks, institutions, organizations, and other relevant stakeholders, including a high-level roundtable event held on December 9 in collaboration with Confindustria Assafrica & Mediterraneo.

Thanks to the operative support provided by UNIDO ITPO Italy, the delegate Ms. Shumiye had the opportunity to introduce six projects and several selected companies in Ethiopia focused on solar and wind power, waste-to-energy, waste management and water treatment to the Italian counterparts, who in turn presented their innovative technologies and solutions, fostering technology transfer and the exchange of sectoral know-how and best practices. 

Organized within the project “Fostering international partnerships between companies and/or institutions operating in the energy and environment sectors”, funded by the Italian Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea, the initiative facilitated the development of synergies between the private sector of Italy and Ethiopia, successfully paving the way for more follow-up activities in the next months aimed at exploring business collaborations for industrial growth and environmental sustainability.
