Rome, Italy - 26th February 2025

From 26th to 28th February 2025 UNIDO ITPO Italy supported the mission to Italy of Leonel Diaz Camero, representing the Cuban Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) as Director of the Province of Sancti Spíritus, with the goal to foster a more sustainable recycling sector in Cuba.
B2B and B2G meetings were held with both the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security (MASE) and CIE Tecnología Ambiental, an Italian company already operating in Latin America. CITMA stressed that the priorities of the Government of Cuba are to attract technologies to implement best practices in recycling sectors, such as plastics and electronic equipment, and to implement a project sustainable in the long term, thanks to the involvement of the private sector, especially SMEs. UNIDO ITPO Italy underlined its key role as coordinator in a potential project in this area, emphasizing the high potential of Italian technologies to implement circular-economy best practices in Cuba, as well as that this topic is part of the Italian government's priorities.
The mission also included company visits to Rubber Conversion in Verona and Secit impianti S.r.l. of Gruppo Paoletti in Perugia, where the CITMA delegate had the opportunity to meet with local experts and witness firsthand the innovative Italian technologies and best practices in the field.
