A Just Transition to New Sources of Energy: Technologies, Costs, Geopolitics

Rome, 8 June 2018 - UNIDO ITPO Italy attended the conference “A Just Transition to New Sources of Energy: Technologies, Costs, Geopolitics” concerning the transition to a society free from fossil fuels organized by the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) and Fondazione Pietro Nenni at the Hall Parlamentino of the National Council of Economy and Labor in Rome.

In particular, the Office took part to the Round Table entitled “Geopolitics of the transition to new energies” presenting the Office vision and the framework of UNIDO’s energy strategy and initiatives to support renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in developing countries. In this framework, some global initiatives have been presented such as the Private Financing Advisory Network (PFAN) and Global Network of Regional Sustainable Energy Centres (GN-SEC). It is worth mentioning that the PFAN is aimed at identifying and promoting innovative renewable energy projects trying to bridge the gap between investors, entrepreneurs and project developers. As far as GN-SEC is concerned, it is a partnership between UNIDO and the Subregional Economic Communities (REC) with their Member States aimed at accelerating the progress on energy and climate in developing countries.

The conference represented an important gathering on the current situation regarding the future of energy, helping to define the necessary steps to achieve the transition to new sources of energy. The participation of UNIDO ITPO Italy has also made it possible to strengthen working relations with stakeholders interested in the activities carried out by the Office.
