The study tour in Italy for the 16 Iraqi profiles selected thanks to the “Sustainable Agro-Energy in Iraq — #IPI Call for Innovative Entrepreneurship”, organized by UNIDO, Joule and Eni Iraq BV in the framework of the project “Investment Promotion for Iraq – Phase II” funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, was successfully held from 3rd to 7th October 2022 between the Italian Basilicata region and the Cilento area.

The delegates – representing Iraqi institutions, associations, agribusiness companies and academia – were assisted during a study tour including meetings with local companies and stakeholders promoting development and innovation in agro-energy, workshops on integral ecology and sustainable development, and visits to experimental projects for agricultural remediation and environmental biomonitoring. 

The innovation trip – developed around the themes of innovative entrepreneurship and new business models for agritech, also explored during the intensive mentoring programme held in Basra in June 2022 – was also reinforced thanks to the active participation of several stakeholders from the networks of UNIDO and Eni: among these, the Future Food Institute for the visit to the Paideia Campus in Pollica, ALSIA – the Basilicata Agency of Development and Innovation in Agriculture and Metapontum Agrobios, Masseria La Fiorita and Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei.
