UNIDO ITPO Italy’s “Workshop on circular economy in municipalities” took place in Sancti Spíritus, Cuba, on 17th and 18th January 2023, with the goal to sensitize municipal stakeholders at both local and global level about the need to promote and transit towards the application of a circular economy model.

Attended by 32 public and private stakeholders, the workshop allowed to present the fundamental principles of circular economy, as well as its benefits for sustainable development; contextualize circular economy in municipal environments, identifying actors, opportunities and initiatives; and share success stories and best practices in the application of circular economy models in municipalities and cities worldwide.

This activity was organized within the framework of the project “Fostering international partnerships between companies and/or institutions operating in the energy and environment sectors” (#FIPEE) - funded by the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security (MASE) and implemented by UNIDO ITPO Italy - and has paved the way for a potential collaborative project to promote an interprovincial center of circular economy and industrial symbiosis.
