Cuba: study mission on saline intrusion in Camagüey

From 23 to 27 January 2023, UNIDO ITPO Italy organized an expert study mission to Cuba, with the goal to analyze the current situation and contribute to minimize the negative impacts of saline intrusion in the Cuban province of Camagüey.

The phenomenon of saline intrusion constitutes one of the fundamental environmental challenges of the country, exacerbated by climate change and with a dramatic impact on agricultural areas threatening the national food security.

Against this background, UNIDO ITPO Italy's experts took part in several meetings with representatives of the local counterpart, the National Institute of Water Resources (INRH) of Cuba, and contributed to systematize, update and integrate information and to propose management solutions on the basis of good practices and successful international experiences.

This initiative was organized in the framework of the project “Fostering international partnerships between companies and/or institutions operating in the energy and environment sectors” (FIPEE), implemented by UNIDO ITPO Italy with the financial support of the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security.
