UNIDO ITPO Italy organized an entrepreneurial mission to discover the Kazakh market in the sectors of recycling and treatment of urban waste, plastic, metals and WEEE, dedicated to Italian SMEs, held from 9 to 12 October 2023 in Almaty with the visit to various local public-private stakeholders.

Kazakhstan is the ninth largest country in the world, having become one of the economic leaders of Central Asia in recent years. Growth based on industrial development programs that reflect the country's vision of sustainable environmental policies - including the Municipal Solid Waste Modernization Programme, which is still being implemented and which presents numerous business opportunities for Italian companies able to offer technologies and technical support in the sector of management, treatment and recycling of the main types of waste.

During the Business Tour in Kazakhstan, UNIDO ITPO Italy supported an Italian business delegation which had the opportunity to visit local public-private stakeholders operating in the reference sectors to learn about characteristics, regulatory frameworks and discover new business opportunities, meet Kazakh commercial and institutional counterparts in order to start possible international collaborations, and share good practices and Made in Italy technological solutions with Kazakh counterparts to develop the local sector.

The initiative was carried out as part of the “Fostering International Partnerships between companies and/or institutions operating in the Energy and Environment sectors” (#FIPEE) project, financed by the Italian Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security and implemented by UNIDO ITPO Italy.
