Vinitaly 2024 and Study Tour in Friuli Venezia Giulia for Lebanese SMEs in the Wine Sector

From 15th to 23rd April 2024, a Lebanese business delegation operating in the wine sector took part in a study tour organized by UNIDO ITPO Italy across the cities of Verona, Udine and Trieste.

The delegation was composed of the 5 winemaking companies — Coteaux du Liban, Mākmël Wine, Chateau Rayak, Cave Abou Hanna, and Skarya — selected by UNIDO ITPO Italy from its “Wine-Win Call for Winemakers in Lebanon” in the framework of the project “Twinning Partnership for Sustainable SME Development in Lebanon” funded by the Italian Friuli Venezia Giulia (FVG) Autonomous Region.

The study tour kicked off at the 56th edition of Vinitaly, the international wine and spirit expo held in Verona. At the FVG institutional stand within the fair, representatives of UNIDO ITPO Italy and the FVG Region opened the floor to the presentations of the Lebanese companies and their wines, followed by a wine-tasting masterclass with the National Association of Women in Wine and meetings with local exhibitors and visitors.

In Udine the delegation took part in training sessions, held at the University of Udine with the collaboration of the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK), and multiple company field visits, with insights on potential applications of emerging sustainable innovative technologies, such as precision mechanisation, to the current state of art of the wine sector in Lebanon.

Concluding in Trieste, after a presentation at the Contamination Lab (CLab) of the University of Trieste and at the premises of the FVG Region on the occasion of the 1st International Steering Committee, the study tour successfully allowed to foster know-how exchange and business synergies for international partnerships and the development of the wine sector in Lebanon.
