UNIDO ITPO Italy presents invetsment opportunities in Colombia

UNIDO ITPO ITALY, at the aim to promote the technology transfer and investments in the Developing Countries, organized the Conference “Opportunities on the relationships between Italy and Colombia” in collaboration with ABC NET and Colombian Embassy in Italy. The goal was to present investment opportunities in the agricultural, infrastructure, environment, and renewable energies sectors.

The meeting counted on the participation of the Head of UNIDO ITPO Italy, Mrs. Diana Battaggia, the Colombian Ambassador in Italy, S.E. Juan Manuel Prieto, the President of the Manizales Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Gildardo Armel, and was enriched by a group of Colombian enterprises and institutions interested in strengthening economic and industrial cooperation with Italy.

During the Conference, Hig Excellency Dr. Juan Manuel Prieto highlighting the GDP growth and exports tripling (mainly to United States, China, Ecuador and Netherlands) in the last ten years, presented the National Development Plan 2010-2014. According to a recent World Bank Report, Colombia is the third most favourable Country for business in Latin America. Micheal Geoghegan as chief executive of HSBC, pointed out that in the next ten years, after the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China), there will be a new leading market group: the Civets (Colombia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Egypt, Turkey and South Africa).

The Ambassador, beyond the mention to the 11 free trade agreements signed with 48 countries that allow a preferential access to 1.5 billion consumers, described the projects portfolio that will be implemented in the near future: building infrastructure, building of power plants and development of the mining sector.

After the intervention of the Ambassador, the Chambers of Commerce of Manizales and Pereira presented Caldaras Region development opportunities, with a special focus on development projects concerning coffee production chain, airports and roads building as well as the establishment of  mini hydro power plants.

UNIDO ITPO Italy  Director, Diana Battaggia, was very satisfied of this meeting and noting the strong interest of the Italian entrepreneurs, introduced a question time allowing them to better know the opportunities discussed.
