Parma, Italy - 9-10 May 2016
The World Food Research and Innovation Forum is the official opening event of CIBUS, the 18th International Food Exhibition to be held in Parma from 9 to 12 May 2016.
The World Food Research and Innovation Forum is a permanent platform available to national and international policy makers, the science, research, business and finance community, which is intended to define shared strategies and effective initiatives for the future supply of food for the planet.
Establishing the Forum as an international biennial event dedicated to food related issues and launching a platform attracting all the key stakeholders’ experiences and expertise, designed to host the legacy of EXPO Milano 2015 on food safety and research.
EXPO Milano 2015, “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life“ has opened a major global debate on the future of food and it will lead to decisions and strategic initiatives to be pursued globally.
Feeding the Planet means addressing the issue of the universal right to food: a challange that involve – in often interdependent ways – States, international organizations, rules and regulations, economics, scientific progress, stakeholders and local communities.
It is a twofold challenge. On the one hand, there is the urgency, especially in developing countries, to ensure the availability of food for a constantly growing population; on the other hand, there is the need to ensure the quality, hygiene and safety of food produced and distributed in an increasingly global supply chain.
Both perspectives must take into account the need to reconcile different actions and respect global sustainable development commitments, in its broadest sense, including environmental, social and economic aspects, which are currently implemented through the so-called bio-based economy in Europe and elsewhere.
