ITPO Italy in the event "Research, innovation and technology transfer for Development Cooperation" organized by ENEA

Rome, 28 September 2017 - Within the framework of the collaboration with ENEA, UNIDO ITPO Italy took part in the event "Research, Innovation and Technology Transfer for Development Cooperation", aimed at deepening and exchange views with the protagonists of the National Cooperation System and major international institutions. The event was opened by the President of ENEA, Mr. Federico Testa and was enriched by the presence of several important panelists, such as Mrs. Laura Frigenti, Director of AICS (Italian Agency for Development Cooperation) and Mr. Paolo Cuculi, Vice Director General in the General Directorate of Development Cooperation, Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Mr. Testa presented the activities carried out by ENEA in the field of Development Cooperation, namely the new “Atlante della Cooperazione”, that regroups all the initiatives implemented all around the world. It is also worth mentioning the intervention of Ms. Frigenti, who pointed out the importance of innovation and research in Developing Countries, which allows to reduce the unitary cost for each intervention, due to new technologies and its efficiency.

Mrs. Diana Battaggia, director of UNIDO ITPO Italy, intervened in the panel devoted to the importance of partnerships in the Development Cooperation. She underlined the engagement of ITPO Italy in favoring the creation of partnerships between Developing countries’ companies and Italian ones, such as the Joint ventures supported in Ghana and Ethiopia. She also mentioned the international award organized by the Office in 2015 and 2017, that collected hundreds of proposals from five continents. Finally, Mrs. Battaggia mentioned the Joint Declaration signed with ENEA within last months, a milestone for further joint synergies to develop during the years to come.

The event was closed by the Deputy Minister for internal affairs of Italian Republic, Hon. Filippo Bubbico, who stimulated all the stakeholders to cooperate together, also proposing to present to the Italian government the interesting points arose during the meeting, in view of the challenge that Italy is facing in relation to migration crisis.
