Online Roundtable “Industrial Project – Ethiopian Investment Commission”

Organized by UNIDO ITPO Italy in collaboration with Confindustria Assafrica & Mediterraneo, the Online Roundtable “Industrial Project – Ethiopian Investment Commission” was held on Wednesday 9 December 2020, successfully promoting investment opportunities for Italian companies in the renewable energy and environmental technology sectors of Ethiopia.

The conference, moderated by UNIDO ITPO Italy Investment Promotion Expert Ms. Livia Canepa and Ms. Angela Giordano from Confindustria Assafrica & Mediterraneo, notably  featured the participation of UNIDO Delegate Ms. Haregewoin Mirotaw Shumiye of the Ethiopian Investment Commission, the Ambassador of Ethiopia to Italy, H.E. Ms. Zenebu Tadesse Woldetsadik, and the First Secretary of the Ethiopian Embassy in Rome, Mr. Shegaw Abate Yimer, as well as representatives from the Italian private sector.

During her opening remarks, H.E. Ms. Woldetsadik provided an insightful outlook on the current investment and business climate in Ethiopia. After her intervention Ms. Shumiye, Director of Investment Information and Technology Directorate, illustrated the industrial projects carried out and supported by the Ethiopian Investment Commission in the local sectors of alternative energy sources and green technologies.

The roundtable discussion was joined by several Italian companies Bolloré Logistics, G-Tek, GTS Well Components, Ignazio Messina, Irritec, Massenza Drilling Rigs, MDN Energy, Metalmont, Morsettitalia, RINA, Siatex, Telecom Italia Sparkle, Tekna Automazione, and Westrafo – operating in the field and interested in discovering more about sectoral investment opportunities in Ethiopia. Their representatives had the opportunity to give a short presentation about the respective areas of expertise, paving the way for potential follow-up activities and future collaborations. 

The initiative was organized in the framework of the project “Fostering International Partnership between companies and/or institutions operating in energy and environment sectors”, funded by the Italian Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea and implemented by UNIDO ITPO Italy.
