Food Safety Requirements in the Processed Tomato Industry

UNIDO ITPO Italy facilitated the participation of Ms. Claudia Zoani, Researcher at the Biotechnology and Agroindustry Division of the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA), in the webinar “Food Safety Requirements in the Processed Tomato Industry” held on 16 November 2021.

The online conference represented an opportunity to shed light on the following topics: Italian regulations governing the pesticide use for the processed tomato and food production; monitoring systems regarding adherence of growers to pesticide use; institutions and regulatory bodies involved in regulating the pesticide use by growers; extension services given to producers regarding good pesticide practices and knowledge update regarding pesticide use and new regulations; and cases of pesticide use and how are they dealt with to prevent it from recurring.

Attended by 20 Egyptian companies, the webinar was held in the framework of UNIDO ITPO Italy's collaboration with the project “Inclusive and sustainable development of the tomato value chain in Egypt” implemented by UNIDO with the financial support of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation.
