Myanmar, several investment opportunities scouted during UNIDO mission

The scouting mission in Myanmar, organized by UNIDO ITPO Italy in partnership with the Italian Ministry of Economic Development from 10th to 14th March, ended with great success. According to the result of the mission, rice production, infrastructure support in rural areas and production of marble are among the main interesting sectors in the country, where agriculture is one of the main sources of income.

Particularly important were the meetings with main institutions, such as the Ministry of National Planning, the Ministry of Mines, the Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Rural Development.  The delegation also attended a study tour in the quarries around Yangon, which are famous for the black granite. The visit raised great interest also in Assomarmomacchine, which joined the mission to explore investment opportunities in the marble sector.

The mission ended with a Round Table with Myanmar Chamber of Commerce, among the recommended proposals the institution of a Vocational Training School for marble workers, which was particularly appreciated by the Myanmar Federation of Mining Association. UNIDO ITPO Italy wishes that this first mission of scouting could be followed by an institutional and entrepreneurs incoming during the second half of the year.
