Numerous investment opportunities presented during the Myanmar Country Presentation

Rome, 2 February 2017 - It was held at the International Conference Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation the Myanmar Country Presentation, dedicated to the huge investment opportunities that the country offers in different economic sectors. The event, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with UNIDO ITPO Italy, the Ministry of Economic Development and ICE agency, has aroused great interest in more than 200 Italian companies that attended the event. The initiative, which is part of the support activities that UNIDO is providing to Myanmar Government, was attended by important institutional personalities, including the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Benedetto Della Vedova, the Undersecretary of State for Economic Development, Ivan Scalfarotto, and the Minister of Trade of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Than Myint.

Several business opportunities were presented, starting from the speech of Set Aung, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Kyaw Lin, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Construction, Aung Naing Oo, Director General DICA (Directorate of Investment and Company Administration) of the Ministry of Planning and Finance, Zaw Min Win, President of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Ken Tun, Parami Energy’s CEO; especially in relation to three specific sectors: infrastructure, energy, machinery (agro-industry, food processing, textiles), taking also in consideration the instruments to support these investments.

Even the Italian interventions were very interesting, among which Piero Fassino’s speech, President of the Chamber of Commerce Italia-Myanmar, who recalled the importance of the political, economic and cultural cooperation between the two countries. UNIDO also presented the ISID approach (Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development) pursued in the country, implemented by the Organization in recent years, with particular reference to small and medium enterprises in a cluster view.

The event, moderated by the Director General for the Promotion of the Country System, Vincenzo De Luca, was then closed by the Italian ambassador in Myanmar, Giorgio Aliberti, promoter of the initiative and available to support Italian companies wishing to invest in the country.

In the afternoon the BtoB session was held, giving the opportunity to the Italian companies to have direct contacts with the 24 Myanmarese companies that attended the event. More than 200 BtoB meetings were held in order to discuss synergies and potential investments. UNIDO ITPO Italy will follow-up of the BtoB session in order to promote the partnerships between the two Countries.
