Manama, 30 October – 3 November 2017 - UNIDO ITPO Italy supported an Italian delegation from Basilicata Region, led by the President, Mr. Marcello Pittella, during an institutional and entrepreneurial visit to Manama. On such an occasion, several meetings were organized with Bahraini top-level institutional authorities and entrepreneurs from Bahrain, Pakistan and Sub Saharan African Countries. In particular, our Office assisted the Basilicata Region delegation during the bilateral meetings with, for instance, HH Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid bin Isa Al-Khalifa and Mr. Zhao Yongli, Secretary General of MCSRCA (Maritime-Continental Silk Road Cities Alliance). During the first meeting they discussed about the prospects of strengthening joint cooperation and exchanging expertise and human resources in sports, tourism; in the other hand, Basilicata Region and MCSRCA signed a Membership Agreement enabling the Region to be part of the strategic Alliance.

Furthermore, UNIDO ITPO Italy attended the signing ceremony of the Memorandum Of Understanding between UNIDO and EXPO Dubai 2020 with the aim to achieve common objectives, including the promotion of investment and entrepreneurship for development to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 

As a result of the mentioned activities, UNIDO ITPO Italy pursued one of its long-standing core missions: acting as an honest broker to promote entrepreneurship and innovation in all economic and social dimensions, as key strategies to achieve the SDGs. In this respect, the Forum’s legacy seems to be perfectly in line with UNIDO’s core philosophy. In fact, our Office fully embraces the belief that decisive support for entrepreneurship and innovation can play a key role in guaranteeing job creation, sustained economic growth, sustainable development and social inclusion.
