Round Table: Investment opportunities on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency sectors in Iran

Rome, 23 November 2017 - In the framework of the project entitled “Support to Iran’s SMEs through investment promotion and technology transfer in energy and environment”, funded by the Italian Ministry of Environment, Land and Sea, UNIDO ITPO Italy organized in its premises a Round Table with the aim to disseminate information on investment opportunities in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors scouted in the country. The Round table was attended by private companies and Italian relevant organizations interested to invest in the country or explore possible synergies with local stakeholders in the sectors of interest. Among the Italian technology providers and the stakeholders potentially interested to invest in the country, the event was attended by Mr. Salvatore D’Angelo, the responsible of the Italian Ministry of Environment for the project in Iran, and distinguished representatives as Mr. Gabriele Martignago from the Italian Trade Agency (ICE), Ms. Isabella Mazziotti from the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and  Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA) and Mr. Giovanni Simoni from the Italian association of companies operating in the energy and electricity sector (Elettrictà Futura).

The Round table was organized also to benefit from the presence of Mr. Doudabi Nezhad, an Iranian officer of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization (SATBA), affiliated to the Iranian Ministry of Energy, who has been hosted by UNIDO ITPO Italy from 12th to 24th November in the framework of the Delegate Programme. As a result, this forum represented a further opportunity for Mr. Doudabi to disseminate information on the mandate and activities of SATBA as well as on the portfolio of investment opportunities in the energy and environment sector selected by his organization that have been promoted among Italian technology providers. Furthermore, Mr. Doudabi managed in particular to disseminate detailed information on the regulatory and legal framework currently in force in Iran in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sector. Indeed, the organization SATBA is directly in charge for setting the regulatory framework and the incentives policies designed to facilitate the development of clean and renewable energy in the country.

In this context, it is worth mentioning that the round table organized by UNIDO ITPO Italy provided to the participants the exclusive opportunity to share their respective experiences and receive detailed information on specific procedures, concrete experiences and suggestions. This allowed them to get acquainted with the numerous opportunities of investment  in the energy and environment sectors in Iran.
